Beautiful Evening Fishing
1 |
We havent seen the river Suir or any of the tributaries this low in many years, fishing during the day has been difficult but the evening fishing has been fantastic. Once the sun goes down and the hatches begin in the evening there are amazing numbers of fish rising. The majority of the fish are being caught on small dries including BWO and spurwing imitations.
Last friday night we were out on the river Suir at Roxborough with David Anchell and Kevin Shone. We were lucky enough to have Martina Salach along with us to take some amazing shots - see the gallery below!
Sedge fishing has not been happening until much later and well after dark. The general size of the fish is quite good too with many fish over 1lb and above being caught. I have heard of several larger fish being caught on the system with one fished supposed to be around 10lb!
We really do need rain to freshen up the rivers and levels are becoming dangerously low but fishing in the evening has been our saviour for the past few weeks.
Fine leaders and small flies are the order of the day, tippets of 6X and 7X being the norm and dry flies sizes 16 and 18 even in the dark of nigh!
