River Nire

A gin clear spate/freestone river flowing from the Comeragh Mountains through the Nire Valley until its confluence with the river Suir. It is a narrow river (12 m/35 ft) with a ripple and pool formation. Access is easy/moderate but wading is over moderate sized rocks. Felt soles are recommened.

Fish

The river has a good stock of fish from 20 to 30 cm as well as some much larger fish. The fishing is mainly on dry fly and nymph with some streamer fishing during high water.

Flies/Hatches

Main hatches include BWO, Spurwings, Sedges, Stoneflies and a good deal of terrestrials. Best flies are Comparaduns, Klinkhammers, Elk hair caddis, Black gnat, small bead heads

Equipment

Suitable equipment for the fishing the Nire is a 7 - 8ft #3/5 line. 6X & 7X leaders.
